My goal is to present stuff I have found that has enabled me to enjoy the computer experience far more than just using the computer as a tool.
But first...
My wife and I serve this little cutie:
This web page layout was generated by a cool web site I ran across:
minifier.orgIt took quite a few attempts but finally gave what I wanted. This is the description that worked:
write html code to produce 1 box at full height and full width with no padding, black background and white monospace size 16 text and yellow link color with an embedded text block and scroll bar on the left third, and a picture 800 x 700 on the right two thirds, and force two buttons side by side at the bottom left to launch a website each in a different window and the same window.
I discovered running the program multiple times using the same description gave different results each time.
I kept every description variation in a text file to make tweaking easier.
---------------------------
Below are two launcher variations I use:
The left one runs in a web browser and the right is CLI...
I use Linux based distros only, setup as read-only and loaded into ram.
My daily driver is PorteuX, a Porteus fork on it's own partition.
The startup only loads minimum software modules to achieve basic functionality.
All other modules can be loaded on demand.
------------------
I also utilise Appimages and other "portable standalone" software.
------------------
On their own partitions are MX, Puppy Slacko and TinyCore.
PorteuX, Puppy Slacko and TinyCore are modular systems while MX relies on one file.
------------------
Grub handles all OS booting. It came with MX. Once I got a handle on it,
changing the grub.cfg file became the easiest way for me to control the boot process.
------------------
There are also Plop and Grub File Manager on the 1 GiB boot partition.
Coupled with the UEFI menu, enabling multi-boot from a variety of sources is easy.
